Todd Thurman
Todd Thurman is an International Swine Management Consultant and the owner of Swine Insights International. Mr. Thurman holds an A.S. degree from Clarendon College and a B.S. degree in Animal Science, Production Emphasis, from Texas Tech University.
Before founding Swine Insights, Mr. Thurman worked for over 20 years in the swine industry either for or with large-scale Pork production systems in the US and abroad. He worked 7 years for one of the top five pork producers in the US, Cargill Pork. At Cargill Pork, Mr. Thurman was responsible for the performance, management and production records for approximately 50,000 commercial sows in three US states.
Mr. Thurman then joined Cargill Consulting Services, a division of Cargill Animal Nutrition, and relocated to Russia where he served as Consulting General Manager for a successful 25,000 sow farrow-to-finish startup in the city of Belgorod, near the Ukrainian border. The company he helped start would go on to become one of the five largest pork producers in Russia. Upon his return from Russia, Mr. Thurman relocated to Iowa and began working with Cargill teams and customers around the world providing consulting and training services and industry insight. He has worked in 17 countries including significant experience in Russia, China, South East Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.
Upon leaving Cargill, Mr. Thurman spent 3 years working for a global genetics company managing strategic accounts in North America and China and developing a new market for the company, the Philippines.
Mr. Thurman founded Swine Insights International in 2017 to provide services to the global swine industry but his overarching goal and guiding motivation is to help pork producers improve actual measurable results on farms. Swine Insights provides two primary services: consulting and training on all topics related to live swine production. In addition to the primary services, Swine Insights also offers education and pork industry expertise to pork producers, allied industry, governments and investors through its SwineTex Insights program.
Mr. Thurman is a noted speaker who has appeared at industry events around the world including the Iowa Pork Congress, the Urner Barry Global Protein Summit, VIV China, the Texas Pork Industry Conference and INAHGEN in Manila, Philippines to discuss a wide variety of topics related to the pork industry. In addition, he writes regularly on relevant industry topics for the Swine Insights blog and external publications. He is a frequent radio and podcast guest and has been featured in articles in publications as diverse as National Hog Farmer, swineweb.com and the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Thurman is a passionate supporter of agriculture and of the pork production industry and enjoys sharing best practices he has developed in his career with pork producers around the world.
Mr. Thurman is a Native Texan and after living all over the world, finally found his way back to Texas. He currently lives near Fort Worth, Texas, USA with his wife, Tisha and two daughters. He is an FFA Dad, fisherman, poker player, book worm, avid traveler and a dedicated fan of Texas Tech Red Raider sports, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Mavericks and the Kansas City Chiefs.
